the "e" key & and a thankful thursday

It started yesterday. my the's were th's and e was conspicuously absent from every word I typed... and you've probably gotten by now that I am a talker so that's a whole lot of e's. As a matter of fact,

The following information has been retrieved from wisegeek.com:

The most commonly used letter in the English language is the letter “e”. This is the case in the general language, in fiction and non-fiction writings, journalism, religious works like the Bible, and even in Morse code.

With “e” being so common in the English language, one would think that it would start the most words. Actually “t” begins the most words, followed by “o.” “E” is the letter which most commonly occurs third in a word, and is the third most common second letter in a word. The most common second letter in a word in the English language is h.

Actually, “e” is far down the list of English language word beginners, and comes in at the 15th place. The five most common letters beginning words are “t,” “o,” “a,” “w,” and “b.”

I miss my macbook. We are very attached. This whole macbook in the shop thing got me to think about how much I value routine and things that belong to me. I am on nitza's macbook air and all the favorites are hers, naturally because its her laptop, and I miss my favorites... all those kind of odd things.

At any rate, I'm thankful for my Macbook and that the apple store was happy I was forthright a about the incident of Ale and the Gatorade that they will try to fix my keyboard for free. No liquid got inside because I flipped it pretty darn quick.  I'm grateful for Nitza who knows me... like really really knows me  which includes the great things, the annoying things and the downright secret things I don't share... she is amazing to me and since we've been together I've never gone a day without feeling loved... or a moment for that matter... she may have put it on hold a few times when I have come home with Ale and great ideas that are really really noisy and she has a headache, but those are fewer and further between.
I'm so grateful and proud of my sister Erin who completed her last nursing school exam and she needs to be pinned and pass the boards and RN world you will welcome another wonderful loving giving nurse. I'm grateful that nitza's parents Dona Lydia and Don Carlos will be coming to visit us the second week of June... YEAH!!! I am grateful for my mom.. who I call a lot of times each day, and she answers a lot of times each day, and she talks to me a lot of times each day.--- I am grateful for S.Tom. If I were every destined for a dad, he is it. He got 4 kids when he married my mom a lot of years ago and we each have a ton of baggage and he loves us for who we are and I'm not sure he even knows we're not his blood children (shhh don't want to upset him!!)

I guess what I am getting at "e" key and all, is that I am incredibly blessed with new friends (DMM) and Old friends (KJ and HJ)... and I have an amazing family and an amazing community and the most precious nuclear family and 2 fluffy doggies. What's better?
Pause

Not going to oral surgery today.. that's not better, but I have insurance and hell if they already went into the bone twice and need to again today, what's a third time right?

Pics will commence when I get my laptop back :(

Happy Thankful Thursday All...

Thankful Thursday

Yesterday I went for the bone marrow biopsy and it wasn't painful. Today it's sore but the procedure went fine. I have an appointment to see him on May 4, 2011 for the results. It takes two weeks. Nitza stayed in the room with me while the did it and that was a huge comfort. Last night Ale insisted that I wear this bandaid:

And THAT made it all better.
Thank you so much to all the folks who have sent me good wishes.... I truly appreciate that.

I cannot exercise until tomorrow so I'm a little stir crazy.

I'm really looking forward to this weekend. I am excited to go up to my mom's house with Nitza and Ale. It's always so fun!!

I feel so truly thankful today for Nitza and her willingness to do anything so I feel relief and comfort. I feel thankful for Alejandro who always puts life right back into perspective seemingly just when I need it. I am thankful for my mom and Tom who answer the phone every time I call and who call me just to chat. I'm thankful for my treadmill and my beautiful home.

Thankful Thursday and Little Boy Haircuts

After I picked Ale up from school yesterday we went to pick up some prescriptions for me (a common occurrence... Ale and the pharmacist George, are great pals) at Target. Going to Target, as most people who know me know well, is bliss. I can never go for one thing. I have to do a full Target "walkaround" in the same order each time. So, all that being said, we got my meds and headed over to the new grocery section (which I now love but didn't at first because it was change and I really like routine --No Change). Ale and I debated the pros and cons of Welch's fruit chewies vs the Target brand... He won, as I had no solid defense for the Target brand (which I usually buy) and Alejandro is a boy that loves facts. We went to books so he could look at a lego book and a Chuggington book. I folded (I usually do) and we bought a Chuggington video. It's our first. We own every Thomas video (and engine for that matter) so Ale wanted to try Chuggington. We went by clothing and then digressed and went and bought a clipper set for his hair. The boy's hair is like velcro and for the sake of his preference I decided I would give him a cut.

We popped Chuggington into my Mac and I cut his hair.
This is the after picture which I took today:

Pretty adorable. (I'm very biased)

These are the curls before:

We had fun and tomorrow is picture day.

I'm feeling grateful for my family.. my Nitza and Alejandro, my mom and Tom, Kelly, Nate and Oscar, Erin, Mike and Gram...

My life is full of abundance and looking into the eyes of this boy remind me of that every day...

My Shower-- Thankful Thursday

I love my home shower. It is large, walk in.. has a few seats in it. Tonight I took the longest most wonderful shower. I am anxious. I am having some difficulty breathing...I did my treatments...it is a horribly scary feeling to feel short of breath.

My heart is racing less now that I lay in my warm bed beside the love of my life with the little fluffies running around and the cutest boy asleep down the hall.

I live a life with a heart full of gratitude. I am not all better.. Dr P says my baseline will take 6 months to come back (and that's without complications.)-- I can get there.. Ask my mom, I'm stubborn as hell and incredibly impatient.

I was struck by a number of things today.. this afternoon... Ale told me that he was afraid his best buddy wasn't going to come home... he is so resilient and expressive that I never realized how much these last 2 hospital stays affected him...We're open to suggestions. He wants to visit and loves being there and flirts with Miss A and Miss M with his cute long eyelashes.. but he's still 5 and one of his parents is still ill.

I talked to my mom on the phone tonight and I was short of breath and with the most loving tone full of pause she asked me to please sit down... I thank god for my mother-- every moment.. every day.. she is my dearest friend... my trusted confidant.  I talk to her at least 6 times a day.. and sometimes that is not enough... She has been my strength..

Nitzita and I were able to openly talk about her fear.. her fright of me being sicker.. and I've been sicker and I pause and know that I spend every day and night with the love of my life...my best friend.. we laugh.. we shake our heads.. we were two fledgling souls that landed right beside one another and happened to look up at the same time... I have a life partner that I truly truly enjoy and am every day grateful for....

and so tonight, we unloaded a week's worth of Hartford Hospital bags into our freshly smelling clean home and got the boy ready for bed and read together like we do each night and as I stepped into my shower I had a moment of pause and really understood that the gift of stepping into that shower is truly what life is about.

The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes but in having new eyes. Rilke

Day 5 in the hospital again. PFT's tomorrow. We're hoping to pull some pre-med 60's.. That's the goal.
I have a lot of what everyone else with CF has when they are her.. tightness, rhonci, mucus, headaches etc.
I'm on IV steroids, Vanco and Merrem. While each of these alone causes exhaustion, the cocktail is really tiring. I took a 4 hour nap today.

This stay has been different so far to me than any other stay in that I have been given the gift of the ability to be still and reflect... on life, on what it means, on its true shortness. My life will be different if I look differently at it... I am grateful for medical insurance, the vest, PFT's, CPT, nurses, doctors, family and all the people out there who do care.

The path is before me... and I believe it in... I am focusing on not letting the little things or inconsiderable people get me down.

On Sunday I did a lot of this:
And it is all that much better with this cute boy with me.

Today I washed my hair.. not profound to many, but profound to me when sometimes it hurts to get up.

This is what i get to see every time I turn my head to the left...

there is beauty here-- I choose to look at it.

another thursday to be thankful

I have struggled since I was discharged from the hospital. I haven't bounced back like I normally do and that scares me. I have also caught a cold, which is in my sinuses, which is icky...

But you know, despite hospitalizations, chronic sinus infections, and being relegated to the 4 walls of my home---I am grateful and truly happy.

My mom and step tom drove an hour south to visit us this past weekend and I was thrilled. I am working from home until 3/28/2011 and am settling into that--- I'm much more a people person in terms of wanting to be in the office, but am staying connected. I see a sinus specialist tomorrow to hopefully make steps forward in the alleviation of the root cause of these frontal sinus headaches...

I wake up every morning to my best friend-- who I will spend my life with.... I drink a cup (or three) of coffee, eat breakfast with the cutest 5 year old on the planet, while he pontificates the complexities of his world-- Such as if hen should be a fireman, a policeman or a rescue worker when he grows up, bring the cutest boy to school and then start my workday (after nebs)

I work at my kitchen table and then pick up the cutest boy in the world and we busy ourselves with legos, reading, cooking or exercising until mama comes home from work. We eat as a family (though not the same cuisine) and each speak about what we are grateful for.

We then take baths and read stories-- after that my n and I spend a few hours reading then nebs then bed--- what's bett

the thankful thursday post that I accidentally deleted

i wrote a long blog post for thankful thursday...  anddddddddddddddd then I accidentally deleted it... i was not going to try to replicate it, but its sticking with me....

i was discharged last night after 9 days in the hospital...the last few days were incredibly emotional.. and there is not an iota of prednisone in my system... hmmm...so this emotional me... it's a grateful emotional... it's a present and true emotional...it's just what is right now..

while in the hospital i wept...
-for the Sharpe's who, after a seemingly no glitched IVF process ARE PREGNANT... these amazing folks who give so much to this world have had god answer their prayers...

- for Sarah Jones who, after 32 painful Thursday's registered Conner's Angels great strides team ... I cried so many tears for what that must have been like... id love to get on a plane and walk that walk beside that family

- for Vertex trials who show amazing results for a rarer CF mutation,

- for the easing burden of having an RT give me pt, hand me prefilled nebs... nurses that set up antbiotics around the clock so i don't have to... for the doctors that just wanted to run a few tests that enabled the diagnosis of an automonic disorder that results in some tachycardia

-for josh who checked in just about every day because he cares

-for sara who has proven to be a miracle of miracles--- who lives... this woman lives

-for my family...Nitza, Ale, Mom, Tom, gram,Erin, Judy... who drove hundreds of miles to come and see me.. bring flavor blasted goldfish, dinners, play card games...

i am a part of this community... the CF community... the people that are there.. that rally... that pray... that care... that i will never meet, but think of each day... they are the front lines against this disease.. we stand in solidarity against a genetic mutation that has taken the lives of those we love... that adds hours of treatments to our days and months of intravenous anti-biotics to our years... that decreases lung function and for the grace of god raises it again... these people are the strongest people i know... the most beautiful...the men and women and children who know what it means to pray and hope against hope.... I am honored to be counted among them... honored..

So this is a not so well written replication of what I wrote and deleted....

Last night I came home and cried and cried and cried... and I've now been awake since 5am... no more tears and have walked my puppy, made some coffee... watched the CF episode of Grey's Anatomy online.. you know because I have CF.. it was about CF... and I'm ready to slowly embrace a day... filling my own neb cups... starting my own IV's... making my own meals... and I'm happy...that the army is behind me... that the cutest little boy is asleep soundly in his bed... that i have this life... and that its mine... and that i have met online in the last 2 years some of the most amazing people I believe i'll ever know...

Thankful thursday... on friday.... but sometimes it just rolls that way...

Being Known

I like what Ronnie and Mandi have done with Thursdays... it gives me no excuse not to sit back and be grateful...Thanks guys...

I am grateful for words... they are oftentimes my only vehicle out of me-- my facial expressions tend to me, "Hey yeah, things are fantastic!!" .. but when the house quiets and the little boy sleeps and the dog submits to a turquoise pillow on a cozy chair across the room, I talk.

I've always been the phoenix... rising up from that proverbial ash...the survivor... the surpasser... the "life can hand her anything and she will take it and run" kind of girl...  but honestly, sometimes it's too hard to carry it, so I talk.

I turn to N and she sees it... and she doesn't say anything, but she looks at me-- she lets the silence beat past until I start talking... and she listens..  and sometimes she tries to fix it... sometimes she doesn't... she doesn't need to, but she loves me.

I am thankful for for N... for her truly unconditional love and support, for her honesty and boy is she honest. I am grateful for the little 5 year old boy with his new haircut that makes him look like an 8 year old boy, but I swear he's still 5!!

I am grateful for my mother... who I can call one of my best friends... after years of trials---we've come out on top. I'm grateful for Tom... the only father I have known...whose intelligence and heart continue to warm us, (my trio) who he loves so dearly...

I'm grateful for E-- by beautiful sister who can laugh hard and mean it... after life had given her some tough stuff...

I'm grateful for K and N and little baby (he's almost 2) O.... I mean cute.. baby O is off the charts and his life is full of the things that mean something... raising chickens to provide eggs, working with his daddy, singing with his mommy...

I'm grateful to Mami L and Papi C... they have souls and hearts that I swear to you god put there himself...

and I'm grateful for Bella... my 8 month old Yorkie that keeps me going... and going and going and going...

I have people... close people.. people that recognize the tones of my voice and the pentameter of my speech...

It's amazing to be known.
